Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 820 catches up to Samsung’s Exynos 7420 processor in benchmarks

The Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge have the best performance on benchmarks you can get right now. With its Exynos 7420 Octa-Core 64-bit processor that’s based on a 14nm process, it whoops Qualcomm which is struggling to douse the flames of its Snapdragon 810 overheating issues.

Now its upcoming Snapdragon 820 is set to fix all that and its early benchmark results reveals some optimistic numbers.

According to a South Korean source, a Snapdragon 820 device was spotted temporarily on GeekBench database which has been taken down. They added that the processor carrying the model number MSM8996 had scored 1732 in single-core and 4970 in muli-core tests. That’s quite a leap from its current Snapdragon 810 processor which scores 1227 in single-core and 4424 in multi-core Geekbench tests.

What’s fascinating is that it beats the Galaxy S6’s Exynos 7420 processor in single-core by 246 points but it falls behind by 300 points in multi-core test. Since this a preliminary benchmark, we reckon the Snapdragon 820 would perform better when it is released commercially. Things are looking optimistic but we would need to wait until early 2016. By then, Samsung would have a newer Exynos processor for its next Galaxy S device.
