In a grand event, Vivo Malaysia has launched its latest device, the X5Pro. Announced officially last month, the X5Pro looks like Vivo’s answer to OPPO’s ultra-slim R series and both of them have very similar specs underneath. The X5Pro carries a retail price tag of RM1,599.

Design wise, it gets an iPhone-inspired unibody design with 2.5D Gorilla Glass 3 on both front and back, which is held together with a rounded stainless steel and aluminium frame. For an upmarket look, the X5Pro gets a Nano-crystal coating that gives a shimmering effect.

At the front, it gets a 5.2″ Super AMOLED display that pushes a Full HD resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. The display also comes with Smart Wake 2.0 which allows you to quick launch applications by drawing preset patterns on the screen while it is off. Powering the device is a 1.5GHz Octa-Core Snapdragon 615 processor that’s mated to 2GB of RAM and there’s 16GB of on-board storage which can be expandable. Like most Chinese smart phones, this is a dual-SIM 4G LTE device and if you need to add-on a microSD card, it will take up the 2nd SIM slot.

For taking pictures, it gets a 13MP f/2.0 camera that boast Phase-detection Autofocus. This is similar to the Galaxy S5’s ISOCELL camera and we reckon it is the same unit that’s on the OPPO R7.

Selfie duties are handled by its 8MP f/2.4 front camera that’s enhanced with Smart Beauty features built-in with the camera app. When taking selfies, it is able to recognise different genders and apply right the right make up levels accordingly. In China, the X5Pro comes with an Iris scanner but it won’t be available for our local market. In addition, Vivo is also banging on superior audio with its Cirrus Logic DAC AK4375 audio chip which claims to offers Hi-Fi quality sound.

Overall the X5Pro is 6.4mm thin and it comes with a 2,450mAh capacity battery. Out of the box, it runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop with its own custom FunTouch OS 2.1 skin on top. When compared to the OPPO R7, the X5Pro offers a slightly larger screen, larger battery capacity but it sacrifices on having just 2GB RAM (instead of 3GB).

With regards to Vivo’s presence in Malaysia, they currently have over 2,000 point of sales outlets and 10 service centres nationwide. For more info, you can check out Vivo’s X5Pro product page.
