The Deus Ex Aria is a device that adds gesture control to your smartwatch

What would life be like if you could control your smartwatch without even needing to touch it? maybe you could answer calls with a flick of a finger or tap it to open an app? The Deus Ex Aria is a Kickstarter project that actually makes this possible by transforming your smartwatch into something a little more hands free, pun intended.

The Aria comes in two forms, a clip for Android Wear watches and a special strap for the Pebble Time, but is compatible with all Android Wear watches, including the ones you see below. In its clip form, its very small and unobtrusive as to not add too much extra bulk to your smartwatch.

Basically, the Aria uses sensors to recognise gestures, specifically that of your fingers to navigate and otherwise control your device. Primarily the Aria lets you access your smartwatch without having to touch it, but it can also be used to control your smartphone as well. Answer your calls, swap through your music collection and even check or read your email.

The device can even be hooked up to your GoPro via your smartphone to remotely send commands to the camera. This opens up a whole new world in how you can interact with your smartphone and wiggly fingers is just the tip of the iceberg.  The gestures are customiseable too, so you can tweak it to your personal preferences.

The company is also releasing an SDK for any developers who are interested in producing apps for the device. They are hoping that the Aria can be used for other more complex actions like interacting with notebooks and perhaps even flying drones in the future.

The Kickstarter project has under a month to go, so you can check it out here if you’re interested in supporting the Aria.

Check out the videos below to get a peek at what the Aria really can do.
