Seems HTC is in a bit of trouble as of late, with share price dropping so badly that the company’s CEO had to make an official apology to shareholders. However in a attempt to control the damage HTC will be producing a new “hero product” that could be out as early as this October.

The HTC One M9 didn’t perform as well as expected, with the brand blaming the sales performance on low demand for high-end Android phones.

There isn’t much known yet about the new mystery phone but it will be something totally different from what HTC has planned for its 2016 flagship device. Its safe to say that it will be a smartphone and given that HTC will be a Windows 10 partner it is likely to be a Windows phone. Rumours are currently pointing at a possible One M9 variant with Windows 10 slapped on but it doesn’t sound much like a flagship. But what could it be? maybe a new Butterfly 3 for international markets or a high performing but affordable priced Desire to rack in the numbers perhaps?

HTC is also planning on realigning their goals and priorities with an increase in research and development investments by 4% for a  total of US$419.33 million while the marketing budget has been slashed down by 19.26%. The brand will also be focusing on some new market niches too, like the Vive virtual reality headset that it is developing with Valve.

Hard to say where HTC’s new direction will take it for now but if it works out we could be seeing quite some change.
