Unboxed: The Apple Watch Sport

The Apple Watch is widely seen as a game changer for wearable device this year. Like the iPhone, it isn’t the first smart watch, but Apple is expected to bring something new to the table which hopefully sets a new standard on how a smart watch should be.

While availability of the Apple Watch is limited only to a handful of countries, we managed to get one from Sydney, Australia just to find out if it is any good. To recap, there are 3 versions available – The Apple Watch Sport, Apple Watch and Apple Watch Edition. For the sake of trying it out, we got the cheapest of the lot, which is the Apple Watch Sport which costs us about RM1,600 (A$579) for the 42mm version.

If you’re wondering how is Apple packaging their wearable device, check out our unboxing after the break.

Being a fashion item, Apple is taking a different route in packing their Watch. Unlike the usual one size fits all, Apple is packing each variant differently from each other. For the Apple Watch Sport which we have, it comes in a long box with the watch packed flatly inside a glossy looking case. Inside, you get 2 straps for different hand sizes but only 1 piece of its upper strap is provided. That means you get 3 rubber pieces in total, so you can’t swap or sell your extra band as a complete set.

Also included is a 1Amp charger and a magnetic charger which comes in glossy plastic white for the Apple Watch Sport. As comparison, the “Apple Watch” and “Apple Watch Editions” would come with a chrome looking magnetic charger which are boxed in a square case. The biggest difference compared to its more expensive variants is the build quality and type of glass. Being the entry model, the Watch Sport gets an aluminium body and toughen Ion-X glass which isn’t as scratch resistant as Sapphire.

So how’s the Apple Watch on a day to day basis? Watch out for our review coming right up. In the mean time, you can read our first impressions of the entire range, including their most expensive variant that cost over RM67,000.
