Add a Back button to your iPhone 6 with just a screen protector

Apple has always insisted that its 4″ iPhone was the perfect size. That’s until they announced its larger iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus that came with much larger 4.7-5.5″ display.

As the screen gets bigger, it is tougher to stretch your fingers to reach the top corners especially where the on-screen back button is located. However they tried to make it usable in a single hand with its reachability mode. This is triggered by double tapping on the home button to shrink the current display. For Android, navigation is less painful on a large screen thanks to the standard back and recent apps buttons.

If you’re wishing for something similar on your iPhone, it is now possible and all you’ll need is just a screen protector.

Unbelievable but true, this screen protector called Halo Back on Kickstarter can add a “back” button to your iPhone. How it works is quite magical and the idea is quite simple if you think about it. As our fingers conduct electricity, Halo Back essentially is a screen protector with an invisible circuit layer that connects the spot where the “Back” button is on the top of the display to empty spot placed towards the left of the home button. So if you’re tapping on that empty spot, it reacts as if you’re tapping the back button at the top.

To date it has exceed its US$20,000 goal by over 3 times and if you’re interested, you can pledge for one at $17 (about RM61). Once it goes on sale, Halo Back is retailing at US$49 (about RM176).

This feature however isn’t entirely new. On the Honor 6 Plus, there’s an option to move the on-screen virtual buttons to the bottom space along with 2 extra short cuts at the top. The implementation should be similar as it also depends on a special screen protector.
