Galaxy Note 5 to be announced in September. Here’s what you need to know

With Samsung’s big flagships already firmly cemented in the market it’s quite sensible to assume that the next big device they are working on is none other than the Samsung Galaxy Note 5.

Rumours for an earlier Note 5 launch in July were quashed by Samsung Mobile’s head honcho J.K. Shin. The brand is still targeting for launch during IFA 2015 which is happening in September later this year, following a tradition of launching their Note devices at the trade show in Berlin.

From what we already know,  the Galaxy Note 5 is expected to have a 5.7 inch display with either 2K or 4K resolution and the latest Exynos 7422 processor under the hood. The new unit is Samsung’s first all-in-one solution with an intergrated CPU, GPU, RAM, storage and modem combo all in one chip. But there are also rumours that the Note 5 could be running an Exynos 7430 processor as well.

Also, Samsung has renamed Project Zen to Project Zero 2, which unlike the Galaxy Note 5 will not have S Pen support. This points towards perhaps a phablet version of the Galaxy S6 edge as opposed to a direct replacement for the Galaxy Note edge. The model number for Project Zero 2 has also been confirmed to be SM-G928, which shares a similar model numbering to the current Galaxy S6 and S6 edge which have vastly different specs than the Note 5.

Project Zero 2 is said to have a smaller 5.4 or 5.5 inch dual-curved Super AMOLED display and will be sporting a Snapdragon 808 hexa-core processor under the hood. This means Samsung is still giving Qualcomm a chance to be in one of their flagships and due to it being a lower spec CPU. As such the price gap between the Note 5 and Project Zero 2 could be much smaller. Currently the price difference between the normal screen models of the Note and the “edge” variant is about RM 500, so could we be seeing a similar price gap between the Note 5 and Project Zero 2?

Both devices are expected to make an appearance during IFA 2015, so stay tuned for more updates.
