Uber has finally arrived in Penang

Attention Penangites, Uber – Your personal driver on demand has finally arrived. Penang is Uber’s 3rd Malaysian city after Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru, and they are available now throughout the island.

One of the benefits of Uber is that you can request for a clean and safe ride directly from your smart phone. Another convenience of using Uber is that it is completely cashless, as your trips are charged automatically to your assigned credit or debit cards. This means you can just hop on and off an Uber ride without worrying about small change.

In terms of vehicle, there’s only a single “Uber” option and their website lists Proton Saga, Perodua Myvi and Toyota Vios as their available options. In terms of rates, the base fare is RM2 and they charge both RM0.35/minute and RM0.70 per KM for the trip. For a start, there’s limited number of vehicles so wait times would be longer than usual. This is expected to be improved over time once they have recruit more drivers onto their system.

As an early promo, you can enter the promo code UBERINPENANG to redeem 2 free rides worth RM30 each. You can download the Uber app which is available for Android, iOS and Windows Phone.
