Launching earlier last month, Samsung’s productivity tablet has finally landed in Malaysia, and it’s aimed not at entertainment but for those looking for on the go productivity but want something more affordable than the Samsung Galaxy Tab S.
Named the Samsung Galaxy Tab A, it comes in two flavours, an 8 inch model and a 9.7 inch variants and both sport the same specs with the exception of screen size and battery. It is essentially designed for people who want to get work done on the road, featuring one hand grip operation, a light metalised look as well as S Pen and Note support for when inspiration hits. In terms of design it looks very similar to the Galaxy Tab S but it’s cheaper and a wee bit thicker than it’s higher end cousin which is priced at RM 1,699 and RM 1,999 for the 8.4″ and 10.5″ sizes.
The Galaxy Tab A has a quadcore 1.2GHz Snapdragon processor, 2GB RAM and 16GB storage that can accept capacity of up to 128GB via a MicroSD slot. The tablet will also have a 5 megapixel rear camera as well as a 2 megapixel front snapper as well as Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box. Both models sport a 1024 x 768 TFT screen with a 4:3 aspect ratio, but the 8 incher will have a 4,200mAh battery under the hood while the 9.7 inch model features a gigantic 6,000mAh battery.
Users of the Galaxy Tab A will also get free exclusive content and services like 100GB of free OneDrive storage for two years as well as access to Galaxy Gifts which gives extra freebies for apps like Evernote, ArtRage and Shazam which include premium subscription access. You will also get the Microsoft Office suite which contains Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint preloaded in the Galaxy Tab A for convenience.
The tablets are available now and will be priced at RM 1,299 for the 8 inch model while the 9.7 inch model will retail for RM 1,599, with both prices inclusive of GST. The Samsung Galaxy Tab A will come in Sandy White, Sandy Black and Smoky Titanium along with the S Pen.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab A will also have a handful of optional accessories available for purchase, which include dedicated book covers for the Tab A as well as keyboards and adaptors.
