Just when you thought BlackBerry is keeping quiet, its new Leap could be making its way into Malaysia. Announced during MWC 2015, the Leap is an affordable new smart phone that’s a notch above its current BlackBerry Z3.

With its appearance on our local SIRIM database, its local launch might be near.

Like the BlackBerry Z3, it gets a similar 5″ display but it pushes a higher HD 720p resolution. Powering the device is a rather dated dual-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 Plus processor with 2GB of RAM. There’s also 16GB of storage with microSD expansion, 8MP main and 2MP front cameras. Like the latest BlackBerry range, it runs on BlackBerry 10.3.1 which comes with productivity tools such as BlackBerry Blend and BlackBerry Assistant.

For faster connectivity, it also supports 4G LTE and Wifi 802.11n as well as Bluetooth 4.0 LE. With a 2,800mAh capacity battery, the Leap is bulkier than the Z3 at 170 g and it is thicker too at 9.5mm. In Europe, it is priced at US$275 which is about RM999.
