Lenovo launches A7000 smartphone and Pocket Projector

Launching together with the Lenovo Vibe Shot at MWC 2015 were two more devices, the mid-range Lenovo A7000 smartphone and an accompanying Pocket Projector.

The smartphone is a 5.5 inch with a IPS HD display and a 1.5GHz octa-core MediaTek chip attached to 2GB of RAM, with 8GB internal storage expandable via microSD slot.

Aside from being dual-SIM ready and having LTE connectivity, it also sports a 8 megapixel rear shooter and a 5 megapixel front camera. Like the Vibe Shot, it packs a 2,900 mAh battery. The Lenovo A7000 also has the surprising addition of Dolby ATMOS surround sound which according to Lenovo, works with headphones plugged in too. Maybe they are expecting users to watch lots of movies with the A7000?

The smartphone will be launching this month for $170 (about RM 616).

Also making it’s debut was a 50 lumen pico projector aptly named the Pocket Projector which not only has dual speakers but it can be rotated 90 degrees to adjust viewing angle and is capable of projecting a display of up to 110 inches. It’s interesting that Lenovo would suddenly want to produce pico projectors considering they’re all but died out in terms of popularity.

As far specs are concerned, it has a native resolution of 854 x 480 and a contrast ratio of 1000:1 which isn’t too bad unless you’re trying to watch stuff in broad daylight. It can last about 2.5 hours on a single charge which means you could easily power through your favourite movie before you’re due for another charge.

And as far as streaming is concerned, you can either slot in a microSD card (up to 32GB) with your videos on it or connect it to your Android, iOS or Windows Phone device though it’s microUSB port and stream from there. The Pocket Projector will also hit the market this month for $199 (about RM 721) and can literally slip into your pocket. Question is, just how well would it fare?
