Xiaomi is introducing something tiny that could take on the GoPro

Xiaomi has something up it’s sleeves, and is going to reveal a new mystery product on March 2nd.

The teasers on Xiaomi’s Weibo and their website shows us ending with a picture of a matchbox filled with luggage and a promise of more information next week. They have multiple teasers too, with each one showing a different kind of video and subsequently matchbox.

Our best guess is that the Chinese brand is going to unveil an action camera of sorts, if the kind of video clips they are showing are any inkling. Currently GoPro is on top of the game in terms of action cameras, and the current one is roughly the size of a matchbox and very lightweight once taken out from it’s waterproof housing; and are great for use while on the go and when taking a dip. But at the same time, it could also possibly be something like HTC’s handheld RE camera.

GoPros are intensely popular and even Chinese cameras like the SJ5000 are widely used for extreme sports and as fly-by drone cameras. Action cameras range from around $100 to $500 so a Xiaomi or Mi camera could cost much, much less.
