DJ Chris Holmes recently developed a line clothes that are “anti-paparazzi” that ruins flash photographs at night by reflecting excessive amounts of light. The “Flashback” line of apparel as it is called is a partially crowdfunded project which hopefully will be bringing the actual articles of clothing to the market.
Each piece of clothing looks like an ordinary pieces of gray clothing under normal lighting but the material is actually coated with millions of tiny “glass nanospheres” that causes the material to reflect tremendous amounts of light back at camera sensors to create terribly underexposed images.

While the idea is a good and and the smart materials are undoubtedly pretty next gen, some photographers aren’t convinced with how well it would work, plus the material seems to be prohibitively expensive. The clothes themselves probably won’t be much of a deterrent for seasoned photographers and those who aren’t using flash to begin with or have the appropriate equipment; the clothes will most likely be functional in ruining the images of those who crowd around with their smartphones and fire flashes indiscriminately in hopes of nailing a picture.
So far the hoodie and the scarf are the two products that have received enough backing to officially start shipping to the public starting August 2015, the rest will come if they can manage to garner enough funding before the campaign ends in about two weeks time.
