Project Ara seems to be in full swing  to create a functional modular smartphone that can be tailored to your liking based on components of your choosing. Given how the population are serious cameraphone shutterbugs, wouldn’t it be great if you could pick the camera for your phone rather than the other way around?

Of the many companies working on modules, Toshiba gives us a glimpse of what their modular Project Ara camera will be like. The designs were showcased at the Modular Phones Forum and it’s hinted that the company will be making three different modules, a 2MP front camera, 5MP and 13MP rear cameras, and we have reason to believe that Project Ara will be heading to MWC Barcelona this year. Word has it that there will be up to 50 modules on display at the event as well, which sounds extremely promising for the project.

Toshiba did say however that the cost of the modules will range from $50 to $500 (about RM 179 – RM 1791) and will be adjusted to be available a ‘reasonable pricing’ to users. Toshiba wagers that their camera lineup would likely be fully ready in 2016.

More images after the break.
