When Xiaomi announced its new entry-level Redmi 2, many are seeing it as a minor update as it comes with a similar 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage. With the rise of competing low-cost offering from Honor and Meizu, Xiaomi has released a new enhanced version that comes with 2GB of RAM and a generous serving of 16GB of storage.
The rest of the specs remains unchanged with a 4.7″ HD 720p display and it runs on a newer 64-bit 1.2GHz Quad-Core Snapdragon 410 processor that supports 4G LTE. It also gets an 8MP main + 2MP front camera along with a slightly bumped up 2,200mAh capacity battery.
For the doubled RAM and storage, the Redmi 2 Enhanced Version costs just 100 CNY more than the current version (1GB RAM/8GB storage). Priced at 799 CNY, this comes to about RM460 if converted directly which is quite a bargain.
The device will go on sale from 13 to 25 February in China, during its CNY spring sale. Hopefully Xiaomi Malaysia would bring the enhanced version into our market, like how it did with the original Redmi Note in Malaysia. While we wait for Xiaomi Malaysia to bring this in, you can probably count on the folks like DirectD to bring in imported units.
