Xiaomi Malaysia teases the Mi Pad is coming soon

UPDATE: The Mi Pad is officially priced at RM799 in Malaysia.

If you’re in the market for a cheap and good Android tablet, the Xiaomi Mi Pad will be hitting the Malaysian Mi Store very soon. After passing its SIRIM certification, the Mi Pad was officially teased on a recent Facebook post.

The Mi Pad is Xiaomi’s affordable answer to the iPad mini with an identical 7.9″ 2048×1536 resolution display and it is powered by Nvidia’s 2.2GHz Tegra K1 processor that promises desktop class gaming performance. It is mated to 2GB of RAM and there’s a choice of either 16GB or 64GB storage, which is expandable with microSD.

In terms of design, it looks like a cross mix between the iPad mini and iPhone 5C. At the back it has a 8MP Sony BSI main camera while the front gets a 5MP shooter. Powering the device is a 6,700mAh capacity battery which is rated to last 86 hours of music playback or 11 hours of video. Connectivity wise, it supports WiFi 802.11ac with dual antennas and Bluetooth 4.0. If you’re looking for pure data mobility, unfortunately there’s no 3G/4G SIM slots.

In China, the Mi Pad is currently price at 1,299 CNY (about RM745) for 16GB and 1,699 CNY (RM975) for its larger 64GB version. With our lower performing Ringgit against the Chinese Yuan, Xiaomi might be pricing slightly more than a direct currency conversion.

If you haven’t seen it yet, you can check out our hands-on and first impressions of the Mi Pad.
