Samsung has just announced its new Z1 smart phone, its first Tizen based smart phone that’s targeted at Indian consumers. Priced at 5,700 Rs (about RM329), it is an entry device with a 4″ WVGA display and it runs on a 1.2GHz dual-core processor with just 768MB of RAM.
For imaging it gets a 3.1MP main camera and a rather basic VGA front shooter. The phone also gets 1,500mAh capacity battery and a scarce 4GB of storage which can be expanded via microSD. Overall, this looks like a low cost Android device from 2013 and even their new low cost offering like the Galaxy V and Galaxy J1 would trump this in terms of specs.
Last year, they had announced the Samsung Z which was rocking a higher Galaxy S5-like hardware. Initially targeted for Russia, the Samsung Z was scrapped before it hits the shelves. Can a low-cost Tizen smart phone make a difference? We are not convinced.
