ASUS made headlines this week with its new ZenFone Zoom, that’s the thinnest 3X Optical Zoom smart phone right now. With OPPO having an obsession of making super slim devices like the R5, it looks like they are about to outdo the Taiwanese brand by introducing an even thinner smart phone with Optical Zoom lens of their own.
Dubbed as the OPPO U3, the photography-centric device will come with 4X Optical Zoom in a rather thin 9mm body. As comparison, the ZenFone Zoom is 11.95mm thick while the Samsung Galaxy K Zoom is even thicker at 16.6mm.
According to GizmoChina, the yet to be launched U3 smart phone will have a 5.9″ Full HD display which is like its former OPPO N1, and it runs on a 1.7GHz Octa-Core processor with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. Fortunately you still can expand the storage with microSD.
Similar to the ZenFone Zoom, the main camera is a 13MP shooter while selfies are handled by a 5MP camera. With a larger screen, the U3 is quite heavy at 180 grams, but it is still lighter than the ZenFone Zoom’s 185g and Galaxy K Zoom’s 200g weight. Apart from taking better tele photos, the U3 is also a multimedia centric device with a built in Asahi Kasei AK4961 audio codec and there’s also an optional OPPO PM-3 headphones that’s paired with the smart phone as well. So far there’s no word on its launch and its international availability.
