Samsung has launched its new Galaxy E series, an affordable smart phone line up that includes the Galaxy E5 and Galaxy E7. It has made its global debut in India, a market that’s highly competitive when it comes to affordable devices.
As a budget conscious device, the Galaxy E series lack 4G LTE connectivity but it supports dual-SIM cards in 3G HSPA+ by utilising its multi-purpose microSD slot. Despite being cheaper in price, the Galaxy E aims to win the younger crowd with decent hardware and premium-like features.
The top of the line is the Galaxy E7 comes with a 5.5″ HD 720p Super AMOLED display and under the hood, things do appear to be similar with the Galaxy A5. It gets a Quad-Core 1.2GHz processor (Presumably a Snapdragon 410 unit), 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage that’s expandable up to 64GB extra capacity.
It also gets a 13MP main camera and a front facing 5MP shooter that supports Wide Selfie mode, Selfie Voice Commands, Selfie with Palm Gestures and Beauty Face features. To keep things going for long, the Galaxy E7 gets a large 2,950mAh capacity battery and overall it is 7.3mm thick.
Going down a notch is the Galaxy E5, which on paper appears to be on par with the Galaxy A3. While the front gets a 5″ HD 720p Super AMOLED display, the rest of the specs include a similar 1.2GHz Quad-Core processor, 1.5GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable storage.
In the camera department, it settles for an 8MP main camera but it also retains a Wide-Selfie supported 5MP front unit. The on-board battery is a decent 2,400mAh capacity unit and it also has the same 7.3mm thickness as the bigger Galaxy E7. Out of the box, both Galaxy E5 and E7 runs on Android 4.4 KitKat with Samsung’s TouchWiz skin on top
