Samsung Galaxy E series in the works as Galaxy E5 and Galaxy E7 details emerged

Samsung is expected to cut down on its smart phone models by 30% next year, in a bid to improve its smart phone margins. The South Korean maker is likely to retain its Galaxy S and Galaxy Note series as their flagship products and the biggest change should be coming from the competitive entry to mid-range segments. If you look at their affordable offering, Samsung has a gazillion number of models that’s hard to keep track with.

In an attempt to streamline their offering, they have announced its Samsung Galaxy A line up which consists of Galaxy A3, Galaxy A5 and a newer Galaxy A7. Now here comes a new Galaxy E series which could be an affordable range that follows the same naming convention.

The highest of the lot is the Galaxy A7 (SM-E700F) and early leaks suggest that it will have a 5.5″ HD 720p Super AMOLED display, a Quad-Core 1.2GHz Snapdragon 410 processor, 2GB RAM, 16GB storage and the usual 13MP + 5MP camera combination. Dimension wise, the E7 is slightly thicker than the A series with a 7.2mm side profile and it comes with a larger 2,950mAh capacity battery.

Next is the Galaxy E5 (SM-E500F) that comes with a smaller 5″ HD 720p display. As you would expect, the camera is a notch down with a 8MP main shooter while the battery settles for a smaller 2,300mAh capacity battery. The rest of the hardware is identical as its bigger E7 model in terms of processor, RAM, storage and 5MP front camera. With a smaller battery, the Galaxy E5 is slightly thinner at 6.9mm.

At the moment, there’s no visibility of its design or whether or not it uses metal frame like its upmarket Galaxy A series. Both devices will be running on the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop and they could be announced in early 2015. The Galaxy A series will be launching in Malaysia soon as both the Galaxy A3 and Galaxy A5 have cleared certification on SIRIM.
