HTC to launch Desire EYE and Re Camera in Malaysia next week

HTC Malaysia will be announcing its new Desire EYE smart phone and portable Re Camera next Friday on 5th December. Both devices were announced earlier last month with great focus on imaging.

For starters, the Desire EYE is a selfie-centric device that comes with 13MP camera and dual-LED flash on both front and back. Despite its mid-range “Desire” name, the Desire EYE is on par with its flagship devices as it runs on a familiar 2.3GHz Quad-Core Snapdragon 801 processor with 2GB of RAM, along with 16GB of on-board storage.

Also included is a microSD expansion slot, 4G LTE, NFC and WiFi 802.11ac. To capture moments in more situations, the Desire EYE is also water resistant with IPX7 rating (1 metre deep for 30 minutes). The battery is quite small though, at 2,400mAh capacity. Apart from its hardware, HTC has also introduced its EYE Experience on its camera app, that opens up new imaging possibilities. The HTC EYE Experience was recently rolled out to current HTC One M8 devices via OTA (over the air) update.

At the moment, the Desire EYE imported unit is being sold at RM1,759.

Seen as the GoPro competitor for casual users, the Re Camera is a new category for HTC which allow users to capture moments easily in an easy to hold form factor. It gets a 16MP f/2.8 camera from Sony that’s mated with a wide-angle 146 degree lens. Taking a picture is easy as it switches on and capture when you press the button, so there’s no on/off switch to fiddle around.

In terms of recording format, it does Full HD 1080p in 30 fps or HD 720p in 120fps. Unlike GoPro cameras, the Re Camera is already water resistant and you can increase its level of endurance with an optional case. The Re Camera connects via Bluetooth and WiFi, and it supports both iOS and Android devices. You can get more details of the Re Camera in our announcement post.
