VIDEO: Nokia talks about its N1 tablet design approach

The Nokia N1 is their first Android tablet that runs on Intel’s 64-bit processor and the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop. With its single aluminium body design, it does look similar to the iPad mini. After all, the N1 is made by Foxconn which also produces Apple’s iPads.

To share a bit on its design approach, Nokia has a released an interview video with Axel Meyer, its head of design. He shared that design should be based on a holistic way of doing things by simplifying the way the tablet is being used. With the Z Launcher, they want to users to jump straight to the content, making the tablet feel invisible when you’re using it. The exterior is natural to see and to hold, so you’re focused on the experience without thinking of it as an object.

While the software side is different from other tablets, the exterior design is clearly inspired by the iPad mini. Priced at US$249, the Nokia N1 is definitely playing in the same field as Xiaomi’s affordable Mi Pad. The Nokia N1 overall is 6.9mm thin and weighs just 318 grams.

You can check out the design interview as well as their brief hands-on with the Nokia N1 after the break.
