UPDATE: Xiaomi’s President Bin Lin has updated that they have sold 1.16 Million phones throughout the full 24 hours period with a total amount of 1.56 Billion Chinese Yuan (about RM848 million). At the end of the Singles Day sale, Xiaomi claims to be the best seller across 7 categories on TMall.

Xiaomi has achieved a new record during yesterday’s Singles Day (11.11) sale in China. In just 12 hours, they have sold a total of 720,000 Mi Smart Phones and raking in over a Billion Chinese Yuan in transaction. That’s more than half a billion Ringgit transacted in a single day.

The epic sale was conducted through Alibaba’s TMall and according to Hugo Barra, they have already fulfilled 300,000 deliveries so far. The previous record was 550,000,000 Chinese yuan transacted within 4 hours, which is still a remarkable feat for a short period.

Their strategy of making affordable smart phones that’s sold exclusively online has helped to propel them to the number 3 smart phone spot, beating other giants such as LG and Lenovo. At last count, they have sold 45 million phones for 2014 and they are on track to hit its stretched target of 60 million units by year end.

With China and India being their biggest market, it looks like Malaysians might need to wait a while before we can get our hands on their latest models like the Mi 4. We are expecting them to release their Redmi Note 4G and Mi Wireless Router soon.
