Remember Project Ara, the modular Android smart phone? Its development is still on going and here’s a look at their progress so far.
With collaboration with developers and vendors, they now have a working prototype which is able to boot up with all the modular pieces in place. While it is quite laggy in the video, at least it proves that the modular concept does work and they would be kicking off its next prototype that’s dubbed Spiral 2.
In the current prototype (Spiral 1), the overall dimensions is quite bulky as 50% of space is used for its modular mechanism. In its next iteration, they are able to shave off more bulk with the used of customised chips by Toshiba. This will be revealed in its next Project Ara developer conference that’s happening on 14th January next year.
