Also announced today is the OPPO R5 which is the world’s thinnest smart phone yet at 4.85mm. This replaces the OPPO R3 smart phone that had a thickness of 6.3mm and it is thinner than the Gionee smart phone of 5.1mm. In terms of specs, the OPPO R5 comes with a 5.2″ Full HD AMOLED display (423ppi) and it runs on a newer Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 1.5GHz Octa-Core processor that’s mated to 2GB RAM.
For its cameras, the R5 packs a 13MP Sony IMX214 main shooter at the back while the front comes with a 5MP camera. Out of the box, it will be running on Android 4.4.4 with ColorOS 2.0 layer on top. On-board it gets a 2,000mAh capacity battery that also supports VOOC rapid charging. Overall, the OPPO R5 weighs 155grams which is heavier than the Galaxy Alpha (115g). In terms of build quality, it is pretty solid with a strong metal frame and backing.
Connectivity wise, the OPPO R5 has a single micro-SIM slot and it supports 4G LTE (both FDD/TDD bands). The OPPO R5 is priced at US$499 which is about RM1,632 when converted directly and it is expected to be released in Malaysia by December 2014.
