Samsung Galaxy Note 4 also offered by Yes with Huddle XS MiFi bundling

Apart from our 4 telcos in Malaysia, Yes, the 4G WiMAX operator is also offering the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 on contract. The 5.7″ phablet is priced at RM2,499 outright and it can be yours from as low as RM799.

Unlike the typical telco contracts, the package from Yes is a little different. The contract on offer is actually for its Yes Huddle XS MiFi which comes in either 8GB (RM128/month) or 10GB (RM158/month) monthly subscription. Unlike the usual 4G LTE telcos, Yes doesn’t come with any SIM and you’ll need to carry the Huddle XS device wherever you go for connectivity, which could be impractical for some people.

On the 8GB plan, the Galaxy Note 4 can be yours at RM1,399 while the higher 10GB plan gets a bigger cut at RM799. Do note that here’s an upfront payment of RM696 (8GB) and RM1,200 (10GB) required during sign up which will be rebated back evenly across 24 months. So the reduced RM99/month and RM108/month subscription fee shown above is basically an offset from the advance payment, and it isn’t an actual discount.

Both plans come with 2,000 minutes of calls and 2,000 SMS per month but take note that this is for Yes to Yes network numbers only. To utilise the calls/SMS, you would need to use the Yes Life app on your mobile device which is more cumbersome than your normal SIM-based telephony usage.

The Yes Huddle XS itself costs RM480 and it is bundled for free in this package. Compared to its older Yes Huddle, the Huddle XS is smaller and it boasts up to 6 hours of usage in a single charge. It supports 5 connected devices concurrently which is good enough for an in-car WiFi router.

Should anyone consider this? If you’re looking to buy a 4G MiFi hotspot that can be shared across multiple devices especially during road trips, the huddle XS is something worth considering.
