A 4G Xiaomi smart phone appears on SIRIM database. Is this the Redmi Note 4G?

The Mi Router with 1TB storage isn’t the only gadget that’s heading to Malaysia. A quick check on our local SIRIM database reveals a new Xiaomi smart phone with 4G LTE and 802.11ac WiFi has been certified locally. Carrying the model number 2014715, we can’t be 100% sure if this is the Mi 4 or its affordable Redmi Note 4G.

A quick check on TEENA database (China’s SIRIM equivalent) reveals that its Mi 4 smart phone models carry the 201421X model number while its Redmi Note 4G models are having 201402X model numbers. Malaysia isn’t the only one having this incoming model as our southern neighbours in Singapore have spotted both the 2014715 device and the R1D Mi Router on their certification database as well.

When it comes to 4G devices, only the Redmi Note 4G has support for FDD-LTE that’s compatible with our local 4G LTE standards. Their flagship Mi 4 and Redmi 1S 4G variants only supports TDD-LTE that’s being used in China and India. So with that, it is highly likely that Xiaomi is bringing in the Redmi Note 4G edition to Malaysia.

The Redmi Note 4G variant looks the same as the current Redmi Note but there are some changes under the hood. Gone is its dual-SIM slots in favour for a single SIM with 4G LTE, while the processor is a Quad-Core 1.6GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 (MSM8928) unit with 2GB of RAM. For WiFi connectivity, it supports 802.11ac which is faster than the previous supported 802.11n.

The rest of the specs are the same which includes a 5.5″ HD 720p display, 8GB of on-board storage, 13MP main camera and a 5MP front shooter. Powering the device is the same 3,200mAh capacity battery but overall it is 10 grams lighter than the previous model. In China, the Redmi Note 4G is priced at 999 CNY and it is likely to sell here at RM509.
