Xiaomi’s Mi Router with 1TB storage is heading to Malaysia

Xiaomi has a wide range of products but we still haven’t gotten any news of its Mi TV, Mi Pad and their latest Mi 4 smart phone for Malaysia. If you’re itching for something new to buy, you can expect the Malaysian Mi Store to start selling its Mi Router which comes with a 802.11ac WiFi and 1TB of storage.

The Mi Router with its model number “R1D” has been certified in our Malaysian SIRIM database a few days ago.

If you’re wondering what this is, the Mi Router is basically your Wireless Hotspot that also doubles up as a private storage server for your home or office. Since it supports 802.11ac WiFi, transferring files should be blazingly fast with speeds up to 1167Mbps and it is powered by Broadcom’s BCM4709 dual-core Cortex-A9 processor with 256MB of RAM. For better connectivity at home, it boasts dual-band 2×2 antenna design that’s hidden underneath its elegantly designed case. Inside it comes equipped with a 1TB 2.5″ hard disk drive that’s user replaceable.

Being a centralised storage hub, the Mi Router is easily managed from the web or via an app on your smart phone. To add new devices, it can be done easily by tapping on the NFC located at the top. From the mobile app, you can actually manage the Mi Router’s home server system including access levels, usage quotas or even queue movies to download. That way you can initiate download in advance so that it is ready to watch by the time you get home. In terms of ports, there’s USB 2.0, 2x LAN ports (1000Mbps) and 1x WAN port (1000Mbps). The Mi Router which only comes in black is 168mm tall and weighs 555 grams.

In China, the Mi Router is listed at 699 CNY which is about RM370. There’s also a limited edition Mi Router kit at 999 CNY (about RM530) which comes in a nice wooden box. Inside you’ll find the various parts of the Mi Router that you would need to assemble yourself.

Like past Xiaomi products, the actual selling price in Malaysia shouldn’t be much different from its mainland China pricing after conversion. For less than RM400, this would be an instant sell out during its usual Tuesday flash sales.
