During IFA 2014, HTC had announced its Desire 820 which comes with a 8MP front facing camera. With more brands jumping on the selfie bandwagon like the Nokia Lumia 735, Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime and Sony Xperia C3, the folks at HTC are pressured to raise the bar higher. Now it looks like they are taking selfie shots to the next level with a much larger 13MP front camera.
From its early leaked details, their new ultimate selfie device is expected to be called as the HTC Desire Eye. With HTC’s double exposure event happening on 8th October, this could be announced alongside its HTC One M8 Eye and its first action camera.
Based on information revealed by @upleaks, the Desire Eye seems to be a high-spec device with a Quad-Core 2.3GHz Quad-Core Snapdragon 801 processor with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. So that you can frame your selfie picture better, the screen is slightly larger at 5.2″ and it pushes a Full HD 1080p resolution. The battery is said to be a 2,400mAh capacity unit but surprisingly it is removable despite being water resistant with a IPX7 rating.
In terms of camera, the front 13MP shooter has a wide angle lens with a large aperture of f/2.0. Meanwhile the back also gets a 13MP camera and both sides will come with assisted LED flash. Somehow HTC’s approach seems like a redundant alternative of the current OPPO N1 but at least you won’t have the hassle of turning back the camera whenever you need to make a voice call. With a large front camera dominating the top, it looks like the Desire Eye would be lacking its signature Boom Sound stereo speakers.
While pixel count for the front gets bigger, HTC is said to be working on a selfie specialised app which is likely to accommodate better looking groufie shots along with beautification feature. At the moment, these are just speculation and we will find out more during HTC’s event next week.
