Samsung to release a Round smart watch. Dedicated Gear with SIM card to be announced soon

Original Galaxy Gear and Gear 2 pictured

According to Samsung resource site Sammobile, Samsung is working on a round Gear Smart Watch to compete with the likes of Moto 360 and LG’s upcoming G Watch R. Details of the device is quite scarce and it still remains a question mark whether it would run on Tizen OS or Android Wear.

For the upcoming IFA 2014, Samsung is expected to introduce its Gear VR, a virtual reality head unit that’s co-developed with Oculus VR. If you’re looking for a new smart watch, Samsung is likely to introduce a standalone Gear smart watch along with the upcoming Galaxy Note 4. Speculated as the Gear Solo, the new smart watch comes with its own dedicated SIM card and it can work independently without pairing with a smart phone. Considering most Gear smart watches have short battery life, it will be interesting to see how would Samsung make this last a full working day.
