Entry-level smart phones usually comes with a tiny screen which is too constraint for big screen entertainment. Now Acer Malaysia has introduced its new Iconia Tab 7, an affordable 7″ tablet with a sizeable 7″ display that also lets you makes phone calls and SMS. Priced at RM499, the Iconia Tab 7 is a new alternative for those looking for big screen phablets without splurging too much.
The model which we are getting is the A1-713 (non HD) which gets a 7″ 1024×600 display that boasts a 140 degree wide viewing angle. Powering the device is a unspecified Quad-Core processor with 1GB of RAM and Acer is packing a generous 16GB of on-board storage. If that’s not enough, you can expand it with microSD cards.
For taking pictures, it gets a basic 2MP camera at the back and a front facing camera that supports HD resolution. Overall, the Iconia Tab 7 seems to be quite compact with its 8.9mm side profile and it weighs 305g. At the moment, the device is currently running on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and Acer says that it is upgradable to the latest Android 4.4 KitKat sometime later. In terms of mobile connectivity, it supports 3G with speeds up to 21Mbps.
At RM499, the Iconia Tab 7 competes directly with the ASUS FonePad 7 8GB and the Lenovo Tab A7-30 that are also priced below RM500. If you’re looking for a tablet without telephony features, you can check out the Acer Iconia One 7 and A1-830.
