Xiaomi releases Redmi 1S 4G in China this Saturday

Xiaomi is upping its 4G game this year and after announcing its Redmi Note 4G, they have just announced its 4G variant of the Redmi 1S. It is priced at 699 CNY (about RM365) and it is cheaper than the original Redmi 1S that’s priced at 799 CNY (RM419).

While the Redmi 1S 4G looks identical with its dual-SIM Redmi 1S 3G version, the processor underneath is actually different. Instead of a 1.6GHz Quad-Core Snapdragon 400 processor, the single-SIM 4G unit runs on a 1.3GHz Quad-Core MediaTek MT6582 processor with Mali-400 GPU and is mated to 1GB of RAM. On-board storage is still the same at 8GB but the expandable microSD slot supports up to 32GB instead of 64GB.

Since it is targeted for the Chinese market, the Redmi 1S 4G supports TDD-LTE and also TD-SCDMA frequencies which both aren’t compatible with our local telcos. Another change is the battery where they have increased its capacity from 2,000mAh to 2,200mAh.

The rest of the phone is the same with a 4.7″ display that does HD 720p resolution and it comes with a front facing 1.6MP camera and a main 8MP f/2.2 camera that supports Full HD. Out of the box, the Redmi 1S 4G runs on a newer Android 4.4 KitKat with MIUI Version 5 running on top.

The device is going on sale in China starting this Saturday, 16th August. For more information, head over to Redmi 1S 4G product page.
