Samsung Galaxy Alpha now official. Ultra-sleek premium smart phone that’s only 6.7mm thin

Samsung has officially announced its Galaxy Alpha, a new smart phone that’s focused on premium materials in an ultra-sleek form. While the Korean smart phone maker is known of introducing new features with the best in class components, they have trying hard to improve its perception of quality with its faux leather look on the Galaxy Note 3 and most recently they have tried out the soft touch perforated appearance on the Galaxy S5. With the Galaxy Alpha, this is their best shot with the use of metallic frame and it boast an incredibly slim side profile of just 6.7mm.

This is the thinnest Samsung Galaxy smart phone yet and it comes with the similar features that you’ll get on their high-end offering.

The Galaxy Alpha features a 4.7″ HD Super AMOLED display that does 1280×720 pixels, which gives it a pixel density of 312ppi. Underneath its metallic shell is a Octa Core Exynos processor that consists of 4 cores running at 1.8GHz and another 4 cores at 1.3GHz which is mated to 2GB of RAM. On-board there’s 32GB of storage which unfortunately is non-expandable. For imaging, it gets a 12MP main camera that can shoot 4K videos while selfies are taken by its front facing 2.1MP shooter. Like the Galaxy S5, the home button also doubles up as a fingerprint scanner.

Connectivity wise, the Galaxy Alpha supports WiFi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.0 BLE, NFC and it even has Cat 6 4G LTE with download speeds up to 300Mbps. With health being a main focus for Samsung, the Galaxy Alpha also comes with a heart rate sensor at the back, which is placed vertically. Juicing up the Galaxy Alpha is a smaller 1,860mAh capacity and overall it weighs just 115 grams. As comparison, the iPhone 5S weighs 112 grams and it is 7.6mm thick. Currently the thinnest 4G LTE smart phone in Malaysia is the Huawei Ascend P7 at 6.5mm but that weighs 124 grams.

The Galaxy Alpha comes in 5 colours – Charcoal Black, Dazzling White, Frosted Gold, Sleek Silver and Scuba Blue, and it will be available beginning of September.
