YouTube Mobile App now supports 1440p video playback

Got a Quad HD smart phone but want to get higher quality content? Not to worry as YouTube has upped its maximum supported video quality to 1440p resolution allowing you to watch sharper videos on your mobile device provided you have the screen resolution to support it. We’ve updated our YouTube app and tried it with the Oppo Find 7 as you can see in the picture above, and it works great. If you have mobile device with a Full HD 1080p display, the highest resolution videos you can watch on YouTube will be 1080p.

Other Quad HD devices include the LG G3, Samsung Galaxy Tab S and the Galaxy NotePro 12.2. At 1440p resolution, beautifully produced videos are wonderful to look at but also note that 1440p videos will use up more data as well, which is something you have to be mindful of when watching high-res videos using mobile data quota. We strongly advise using WiFi for this visual indulgence.

At time of writing, the latest YouTube app (5.9.0.10) isn’t available for mobile users in Malaysia just yet but it is likely to be rolled out in stages so you’ll have it in your device soon. If you can’t wait, you can try downloading the latest YouTube APK file manually which is what we did on the Oppo Find 7.
