HTC to announce new Windows Phone based on its current One M8 flagship device

HTC One Windows Phone M8

HTC used to be in the business of making Windows Phones. When Windows Phone 7 was released 4 years ago, HTC had introduced 5 different models. 2 years later, they had released their polycarbonate based Windows Phone 8X and 8S which were considered Microsoft’s signature Windows Phone 8 devices at that time.

While Nokia has been dominating the Windows Phone segment, HTC is not throwing the towel just yet as they are set to introduce a new Windows Phone device next month on August 19. They have sent out media invites and word has it that it will be heavily based on their current HTC One M8 flagship device. In terms of naming, it could be called as the HTC One W8. When it comes to premium smart phone design, the HTC One M8 has been holding on to its title rather well. Like the saying “if ain’t broken, don’t fix it”, HTC is just reusing the same device but with a different operating system running on board.

So it is safe to expect 3 metallic colour options (Gold, Silver, Gunmetal Grey), 5″ Full HD display, Quad-Core Snapdragon 801 processor with 2GB of RAM and storage options of either 16GB or 32GB capacity. So far there’s no word on its camera and it will be interesting to see whether they would opt for its 4MP Duo Camera set up or a mainstream 13MP shooter. Out of the box, the new device would be running on the latest Windows Phone 8.1 and apparently it will also have support for its proprietary Dot View Case.
