The folks at Sony Mobile appears to be hard at work with their next smart phone release. After introducing its flagship Xperia Z2 in Barcelona, its alleged Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 compact has appeared online. From the leak photos, Sony isn’t moving away from its omni balance design for its next generation of devices. Like its Xperia Z2, the new models appear to have retained the front stereo speakers and they are now placed more prominently on the front panel.
In terms of specs, the Xperia Z3 which carries the model number D6653 is still sporting a Full HD display at 1920×1080 and its processor has been bumped up to a newer 2.5GHz Quad-Core Snapdragon 801 processor. This places the Xperia Z3 on par with the current flagship smart phones in terms of processor. The current Xperia Z2 is running on a 2.3GHz Snapdragon 801 unit but it is mated with 3GB of RAM. From its alleged screenshot, it is seen running on a newer Android 4.4.4 KitKat.
For their compact flagship offering, it looks like Sony had given the Z2 a pass and have went straight to the Xperia Z3 compact. The screen is slightly larger at 4.5″ but pushes the same respectable 1280×720 resolution. Like its Xperia Z1 compact, they are not compromising on the performance bits with a 2.5GHz Quad-Core Snapdragon 801 processor that’s mated to 2GB of RAM. For imaging, it is said to be packing a 20.7MP main camera and a front facing 2.1MP unit. As you would expect from a Sony flagship, both Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact should be retaining its signature water/dust resistance.
The launch could be around the corner and rumour has it that it may make its debut during IFA that’s happening in September.
