Acer Malaysia today has announced a couple of new devices that’s focused at portability. The star of today’s announcement is their new Aspire Switch 10 which is a 2-in-1 hybrid notebook that offers 4 modes for touch, typing, viewing and sharing. With growing demand of capable tablets at an affordable price, they have also announced the Acer Iconia One 7 and Iconia A1-830 tablets that are priced below RM600. All 3 devices are powered by Intels’ Atom processors.
The Acer Aspire Switch 10 is a 10 incher tablet which is docked to a keyboard mechanically using a special snap hinge design. The 10.1″ IPS display does a modest 1366×768 pixels resolution with a brightness that’s rated at 350 nits. Powering the device is Intel’s Atom Z3745 (BayTrail) processor with Quad-Cores running at 1.33GHZ (Burstable up to 1.86GHz). There’s also 2GB of RAM and 32GB of on-board storage. If you need more, the dockable keyboard also provides additional 500GB of secondary space.
Juicing up this hybrid combination is a 5,910mAh capacity battery with up to 8 hours of claimed battery life. The tablet alone it is just 8.9mm thin and weighs 585 grams. With the dockable keyboard attached, it weighs 1.2kg.
The Switch 10 also gets a 2MP front facing camera, microUSB port, full sized USB port, microSD card reader and a micro HDMI port. For connectivity, it also gets your standard Bluetooth 4.0 and WiFi 802.11n. At RM1,399, the Switch 10 is an interesting alternative to the usual tablets as it runs on the full fledged Windows 8.1 OS for productivity work.

For those looking for an Android tablet without bursting your budget, the RM399 Iconia One 7 comes with a decent 7″ IPS display that does 1280×800 pixels resolution and runs on Intel’s Dual-Core 1.6GHz Atom Z2560 processor with 1GB of RAM. Even for this price, Acer is generous enough to pack 16GB of storage which is expandable with microSD card up to 32GB. It gets a front facing unspecified HD camera and a main 2MP camera at the back which shoots 720p HD videos. With a 3,680mAh capacity battery on board, the Iconia One 7 weighs 0.33kg and is 8.95mm thick. It currently runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean but it is upgradeable to the current Android 4.4 KitKat at a later date.
If you prefer something more premium, the Iconia A1-830 offers an uprated metal design and offers a bigger 7.9″ screen. In terms of display resolution, it is a notch down with a 1024×768 pixels but it still uses IPS panel for better viewing angles. The internals are pretty much identical with the Iconia One 7 with a Dual-core 1.6GHz Intel Atom Z2560 processor with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of on-board storage. The camera is a notch higher with a 5MP main camera that does Full HD 1080p videos and comes with a front facing 2MP camera. The storage is also expandable with microSD and it comes with a larger 4,000mAh capacity battery that’s rated to last 7.5 hours of usage. It is even thinner as well at 8.15mm slim but it ticks the scale upwards at 0.37kg.
