MediaTek without a doubt has helped drive decent smart phones at an affordable price. Last year we’ve seen Lenovo gaining much momentum in the entry to mid-tier segment with smart phones that are mostly running with MediaTek instead of Qualcomm Snapdragon processors. Even Xiaomi’s popular Redmi, Redmi Note and Huawei’s Honor 3C are using them as well. The entry level segment is extremely competitive in pricing. Up to a point that mainstream players like HTC had to resort to using MediaTek for the very first time in their Desire 310.
Now word has it that Sony will be releasing more MediaTek based smart phones and a report says that up to 5 models would be introduced in 2015. With LTE being a de-facto connectivity standard, some of them will likely use MediaTek’s newest MT6595 Octa-Core processor that supports 4G LTE.
This isn’t a first for Sony as they currently have a MediaTek based smart phone of their own with the dual-SIM Xperia C. It was launched last year at RM999 with a 5″ qHD display, Quad-Core 1.2GHz processor, 1GB of RAM and 4GB of expandable storage. What do you guys think of MediaTek?
