Huawei announces Ascend P7, MediaPad X1 and 3 more new devices in Malaysia



Huawei has launched its latest range of smart phones and tablets today including its flagship Ascend P7 smart phone. As seen from some online retailers, the Huawei Ascend P7 is priced at RM1,499 while its compact MediaPad X1 tablet is priced at RM1,399 for the 4G LTE version. Apart from these 2, they have also announced an 8″ multimedia tablet, a mid-spec smart phone and a hybrid sports wearable device.

Huawei Ascend P7


The Ascend P7 which was announced last month is the thinnest 4G LTE smart phone at just 6.5mm thick. It replaces its previous super slim Ascend P6 smart phone with a bigger screen and uprated internals. The display is now a bigger 5-incher which does Full HD 1920×1080 resolution and inside it runs on their own HiSilicon Kirin 910T Quad-Core 1.8GHz processor with 2GB of RAM. For storage, it gets 16GB on-board which is expandable with microSD and keeping the lights on is a decent 2,500mAh battery which can be prolonged with its Ultra Power Saving Mode.

Build quality is something Huawei wanted to show off this time around. Apart from using metallic frame, the back of the Ascend P7 comes with 7 layers of micro-patterns for a more premium feel in the hands. The 3rd generation Gorilla Glass not only protects the front as Huawei has applied it for the back glass as well. Photography is an area which the Ascend P7 plans to stand out with a 13MP BSI main camera that snaps in 1.2 seconds while over at the front, it boasts a large 8MP camera which comes with the world’s first panorama Selfie mode.

During the launch event, Huawei has mentioned that it will be available on contract through Celcom and U Mobile. It is available in Black and White colours with other options to come in later.

Huawei MediaPad X1


Next is their compact 7″ tablet the MediaPad X1 which can make phone calls and send SMS. Like the Ascend P7, the MediaPad X1 is impressively thin and light at just 7.2mm thick and 239 grams. As comparison the iPad mini (with Retina Display) is thicker at 7.5mm while the Nexus 7 is still heavier at 290 grams. It gets a 7″ Full HD display with very thin bezels and it runs on a 1.6GHz Quad-Core processor with 2GB RAM and expandable 16GB of storage. It gets a 13MP main camera, 5MP front shooter and a large 5,000mAh capacity battery. The 4G LTE version is priced at RM1,399 and there’s also a 3G version at RM1,299. Huawei MediaPad M1 4G LTE & 3G


If you’re looking for something bigger, the MediaPad M1 offers a larger 8″ 1280×800 display and comes with dual-front stereo speakers. It also runs on a 1.6GHz Quad-Core processor but is mated to just 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage which can be expanded with microSD. For imaging it is a step down with a 5MP main shooter and a 1MP front facing unit. Like its premium cousin, the MediaPad M1 has a 4G LTE variant and is also capable of phone calls and SMS. TalkBand B1


Apart of their flagship smart phone and tablets, Huawei Malaysia has also announced its TalkBand B1 sports band at RM499. From our quick hands-on, the TalkBand B1 is basically a hybrid bluetooth headset and fitness band device for your wrist. It has a black and white OLED display and the battery is rated to last for 6 days.

Ascend G6 4G LTE & 3G


Meanwhile the Ascend G6 is a mid-spec 4.5″ smart phone that’s priced at RM899 for the 4G LTE variant and RM749 for the 3G version. It gets a qHD 960×540 resolution IPS display and runs on a 1.2GHz Quad-Core Qualcomm processor with 1GB of RAM. Depending on which model, the 4G version gets 8GB of on-board storage while the 3G version gets 4GB of capacity. If more storage is needed, it is expandable with microSD card. For imaging, it gets a 8MP main shooter and a front facing 5MP unit. With a 2,000mAh battery on-board, it is still quite slim at just 7.5mm.
