Purported HTC One M8 mini appears with single rear camera

UPDATE: Official new HTC One mini press renders leaked. Reveals one assisted LED flash and different sensor placement at the front.

After the HTC One M8, HTC is expected to release its compact aluminium smart phone to replace its current HTC One mini. For the first time, its purported image has appeared revealing a similar One M8 design which isn’t surprising at all. At the back, it is seen with just one instead of two cameras that’s found on its new One M8. This matches its earlier speculation that the mini smart phone would be opting for a 13MP shooter instead of a 4MP Ultrapixel camera. For selfie shots, the front gets a 5MP camera just like its bigger sibling.

In terms of specs, the One M8 mini is said to be running on a 1.4GHz Quad-Core Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 400 processor with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. Over at the front, it gets a slightly bigger 4.5″ display that does 1280×720 pixels resolution and it also ditches the front capacitive buttons for on-screen buttons. As you would expect, it will be running on Android 4.4 with the latest Sense 6.0 UI. In terms of naming, @evleaks has tweeted that it would be called as the HTC One mini 2, which we admit that sounds pretty weird. In terms of availability, the One M8 mini is expected to be launched in Taiwan at the end of this month.

It is obvious that HTC is banging on its premium aluminium body instead of specs for its compact One device. Spec-wise it pales in comparison with the current Sony Xperia Z1 Compact which offers a faster Quad-Core Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, 20.7MP Camera and a water resistant body for just RM1,699. When the HTC One mini was launched in Malaysia, it carried the price tag of RM1,699 which is quite expensive for it is low-spec offering. If only HTC followed Sony’s route of offering top notch hardware in a smaller package.
