Xiaomi’s entry level Redmi smart phone was a hot seller in Singapore. The aggressive Chinese smart phone maker appears to be working on newer replacement as it was spotted on China’s TEENA certification database.
The picture shown above is the purported Redmi replacement which is speculated to come with a larger 5.5″ IPS display that does HD 720p resolution. The processor is said to be an Octa-Core unit that’s likely to be supplied from MediaTek with 2 models running at 1.4GHz and 1.7GHz respectively.
The cameras apparently will be upgraded as well to a 13MP rear and 5MP front camera. There’s no details on its announcement yet but it is likely to be similarly priced as the current RedMi. The RedMi went on sale in Singapore last month for $169 and was snapped up under 8 minutes. Last week, their flagship Mi 3 was sold out even quicker in just 2 minutes.
With its performance at value pricing proposition, they are definitely giving its competitor smart phones a run for their money. After its presence in Singapore, Xiaomi is expected to spread its wings to Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia pretty soon.
