The new Microsoft Surface 2 will go on sale in Malaysia this Friday on 14th March. It will be priced at RM1,399 for the 32GB version and RM1,699 for the larger 64GB capacity unit. In terms of specs, the Surface 2 runs on a Windows RT 8.1 and is powered by a Nvidia Tegra 4 (T40) 1.7GHz Quad-Core processor mated to 2GB of RAM. It comes with a 10.6″ screen that does Full HD 1920×1080 pixels resolution and boasts a battery life with 10 hours of usage.
Along with the new Surface 2, Microsoft Malaysia is also bringing in their latest Touch Cover 2 and Type Cover 2 which are priced at RM379 and RM409 respectively.
Meanwhile, the previous generation Surface RT has been slashed to RM1,199 for the 64GB version while the Surface Pro with 128GB storage is now priced at RM1,899. Its smaller storage capacity models appears to have been discontinued. Pricing for the original Touch Cover and Type Cover has been revised as well to RM279 and RM319 respectively. If you’re not looking for the latest, the Surface Pro 128GB model seems to be a rather good buy right now that’s running the previous 3rd generation Core i5 processor.
For those requiring a real laptop replacement, you should consider the Surface Pro 2 which runs on a full fledged Windows 8.1. That comes with a Intel Core i5 processor with a choice of either 4GB and 8GB of RAM with storage capacity up to 512GB. There’s no word on its pricing and availability at the moment.
