Meet Carbon, a new watch that’s tells the time and even provides extra juice for your smart phone during emergencies. Unlike the new smart watches we’ve seen, the functionality of Carbon is rather basic. At the top, it comes with a Solar Cell that charges its to built-in 800mAh capacity battery. The basic version which costs US$95 to pledge on Kickstarter only comes with a solar charger without a clock on it. If you want to be able to tell the time, the Carbon Solar Charger + Analog Clock will set you back at $130.

Charging from Carbon is done using a cable that’s connected to a 3.5mm looking port hidden under the side screw-on cap. With a 800mAh capacity, don’t expect it to give a full charge but it should be sufficient enough to run for couple of hours. Recharging the Carbon Solar Watch claims to take about 6 hours to charge under full sunlight. Alternatively you can also charge it via USB using the same connector port under the cap.

It is a nice little idea, but it is rather expensive for a backup battery with just 800mAh capacity. For half the asking price, you can get a pretty decent 10,000mAh battery which is able to fully charge your phablets a couple of times.

Watch the intro video of Carbon after the break or you can check out their Kickstarter page for more info.
