All new Google Maps for desktop users now available

Initially released as a preview beta, the all new Google Maps is now live for desktop users. The new version is smarter than before and it suppose to help you make decisions faster. It comes with a fresh new interface and the map search results are now improved with user reviews.

When planning for a trip, the new directions feature aims to get you to your destination faster. When you are searching for directions, it will shows multiple routes available including other modes such as Walking or Public Transport. So sometimes in a bad traffic day, walking or taking the LRT could be faster option. It is also good to know that Google has integrated Waze traffic info and alerts, so you’ll get better route recommendation in real time.

The Street View interface has been changed as well and it includes a picture carousel below to let you explore other interesting places around the area. For now you can’t drop the Street View stick man anywhere on Malaysian roads as the Google Map cars are still roaming on our streets. However you can still enjoy limited street views or 360 photo spheres taken at popular landmarks such as KL Tower, KLCC and Batu Caves.

If we have one complaint, the new Google Maps automatically loads the map of the US which was the same issue we’ve faced in the earlier preview version. In the old Google Maps for desktop, it will automatically show the map of your current location upon loading it up in the browser. Fortunately the new Google Maps in its final version comes with the “My Location” button, so you can bring up your current location with one click.

To discover the new Google maps, head over to googlemaps.com.
