The day when you can chop vegetables with your smart phone might come sooner than we think. Chinese smart phone maker Gionee claims to have made the thinnest smart phone yet with its Elife S5.5 with a thickness of only 5.5mm. This is even thinner than Vivo X3 which is boast a slimness of 5.6mm.

The Elife S5.5 features a 5″ display (resolution unknown) and runs on a decent 1.7GHz Quad-Core processor with 2GB of RAM. It also comes with a 8MP main camera, a front facing 5MP unit and still manages to pack a 2,300mAh capacity battery. Internally, it runs on a their very own Android based Amigo OS and comes in both 3G and 4G LTE models. The 3G model has started its pre-orders for US$370, which is about RM1,220.

Chinese manufacturers have been rather obsessed with slimness lately and we wonder how thin can they go. Huawei first announced their ultra slim Ascend P6 of 6.18mm and was followed by Vivo X3’s 5.6mm. We’ve certainly have come a long way since the Motorola RAZR was launched with a thickness of 7.1mm.
