Early Antutu benchmarks reveal 2 extremely different variants of Samsung Galaxy S5

Samsung usually has a habit of offering different variants of its flagship devices. Take for example the Galaxy S4 which was offered in non-LTE enabled model running on Samsung’s Exynos processor and a 4G LTE version which runs on a Quad-Core Qualcomm processor. It is the same story for the Galaxy Note 3 but fortunately we are offered only the 4G LTE version in Malaysia.

Usually whichever variant you go for, the phones are essentially the same except for the processor and 4G LTE support. However for the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S5, an early Antutu benchmark results reveal otherwise. In an early benchmark results, it appears that the 2 Galaxy S5 models are very different in their offering. In fact, the only similarity is the 16MP camera sensor.

The 2 models identified are:

SM-G900R4
-Android 4.4.2 KitKat
-Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 (MSM8974AC) – 300-2457MHz Clock speed
-Adreno 330 GPU
-2560×1440 pixels resolution
-2.1MP and 16MP Camera
-3GB RAM
-32GB Storage

SM-G900H
-Android 4.4.2 KitKat
-Samsung Exynos 5422 (8 Cores) – 500-1500MHz Clock speed
-Mali T628 GPU
-1920×1080 pixels resolution
-2.1MP and 16MP Camera
-2GB RAM
-16GB Storage

If the specs above are true, it looks like Samsung is making a clear differentiation between the 2 variants. Although it is not mentioned here, it is likely the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 unit would be supporting 4G LTE considering it packs superior specs such as a QHD resolution, 3GB of RAM and double the on-board storage.

Like all rumours, it is still too early to tell if this is the real deal. The lower spec’ed Exynos 5422 version seen here might be a prototype model or possibly a Samsung Galaxy S5 mini with hardware that’s one notch below. All shall be revealed by end of this month as the Samsung Galaxy S5 is expected to be revealed in their special Unpacked 5 event.
