In just 3 weeks, the Samsung Galaxy S5 is expected to launch in its special Unpacked event. Russian insider Eldar Murtazin has tweeted what he claims to be the upcoming hardware specifications of the new Galaxy S5 flagship which includes a 5.24″ QHD AMOLED display that does 2560×1440 pixels resolution with a density of 560 ppi (pixels per inch). This somewhat matches Samsung’s earlier presentation which sets its target of manufacturing WQHD displays capable of 560ppi in 2014.
In terms of processor, there will be 2 variants consisting of Exynos 6 and Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor that’s mated with 3GB of RAM. It is likely that the Galaxy S5 will be available in either 3G HSPA+ and 4G LTE variant like its current Galaxy S4 & Note 3.
Storage is said to be either 32GB or 64GB, which is a good thing as the Galaxy S4 16GB model leaves very little usable storage space. For photography and video, the Galaxy S5 is said to come with a 16MP main camera and a front facing 3.2MP unit, which is almost double the pixel count of its predecessor.
Battery capacity wise, the Galaxy S5 is claimed to include a rather generous 3,200mAh capacity unit which is of the same size as the current Galaxy Note 3. Hopefully that would give some all-day performance especially when it comes with a higher resolution display.
Of course, these specs are just rumours for now but Edlar Murtazin does have a couple of leaks that turned out right in the past. The hardware does look promising but what would be interesting to look out for is its revamped interface which was leaked here and here.
We will find out soon enough 3 weeks from now. The Unpacked event will be streamed live on YouTube at 3AM on 25th February (Malaysia Time).
