The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 was recently upgraded to the latest Android 4.4.2 KitKat. However the new software had caused 3rd party non-Samsung S-View covers to stop working. Initially this was seen as an attempt to force owners to buy original accessories but this doesn’t seem to be the case.
Samsung apparently has issued the following statement to Ars Technica:
We have currently identified a software compatibility issue with the Galaxy Note 3 update to Android 4.4 (KitKat) and select 3rd party accessories. A software update will be available shortly. We are committed to offering a diverse and reliable mobile experience for all customers, providing continued support and solutions for any issues that arise with product updates for both Samsung manufactured and third-party accessories.
So if you’ve updated to the latest KitKat and your accessories doesn’t work, don’t ditch them yet. Hopefully with the new update, the S-View functionality will return with existing 3rd party cases. So far Samsung hasn’t mentioned when they are rolling out the update but it should be happening pretty soon.
