Android app friendly BlackBerry 10.2.1 update could be rolling out end of this month

BlackBerry’s highly anticipated update – BlackBerry 10.2.1 is now rumoured to roll out next week beginning 28th January. When it comes to software updates, BlackBerry seems to be pretty quick with its international release especially in Asia Pacific.

There’s a lot to look forward to with the latest software update. Despite its tiny 0.1 increment from Blackberry 10.2, it brings a host of new UI enhancements that will improve usability and more levels of user customisation. You can check out all the new features in a hands-on video here.

The biggest addition would be the ability to install Android Apps via APK files. For those who are new, APK is the original Android installer file and previously Blackberry 10 OS requires a conversion from APK to BAR file in order to install Android apps. In short, the new update gives BlackBerry users easier access to the wide variety of apps available on the Android platform. The only hurdle is the lack of a Google Play Store but don’t worry as there are alternative solutions such as Droid Store that would do the trick.
