Cheap and Cheerful Moto G officially launched in Malaysia

The Moto G which was just launched in Malaysia is an affordable Android smart phone with impressive hardware in its class. Priced at RM698 for 8GB and RM798 for the 16GB storage version, the Moto G comes with a decent 4.5″ IPS HD display that does 1280×720 pixels resolution which is toughen with Gorilla Glass 3. Underneath it runs on a rather capable Quad-core 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor with 1GB of RAM and supports dual-SIM cards.

You’ll also get a 5MP camera that shoots 720p HD videos and a secondary 1.3MP camera at the front. Juicing up the Moto G is a 2,070mAh battery which is actually quite decent for its class and overall it weighs 143 grams with a thickness of 11.6mm. The battery is non-removable and unfortunately it lacks micro-SD slot. Currently the Moto G runs on Android 4.3 but it will be upgraded to the latest Android 4.4. KitKat pretty soon.

Overall, it is quite a bargain considering it packs a decent 4.5″ display, quad-core processor and 16GB storage below RM800. As comparison, the similarly equipped HTC One mini costs nearly twice as much. If that’s not enough, they are also throwing in free additional 50GB cloud storage on Google drive for 2 years.

The Moto G is currently distributed by Brightstar and for those wish to secure a unit can pre-order through Lazada until 20th January. Early birds will get Motorola Flip Shell and a screen protector worth RM128 and RM18 respectively. The Moto G will officially go on sale on 21st of January which they will bundle a Motorola Shell worth RM78 along with its screen protector. If you don’t fancy getting it through Lazada, participating dealers and telcos will be offering it as well from 21st January onward.
